About Friendship Presbyterian Church

churchFounded just over 60 years ago, Friendship is a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA), the largest Presbyterian denomination in the US. Our church is located on the border between Oconee and Clarke Counties and reflects the diversity of the area, including members young and old, longtime residents and new arrivals, lifetime Christians and those new to the faith, people of different nationalities and cultures, and folks in various places along the spectrum of theological and political beliefs. We are unified by our love for Christ and our call to respond to God's grace within the ministry of the church.

Friendship is a "family church" in the sense that all members of the congregation, children, youth and adults, are a vital part of the church family and have important roles to play in the life of the church. We worship together, serve together, study together, care for each other, and enjoy fellowship together, while also providing age appropriate experiences for study and fellowship as well. Church activities are aimed at not only strenghtening the individual relationship with God but relationships between church members, too.

Worship is a key part of church life. ,Children and youth are integrally involved in the worship life of the church, serving as acolytes, liturgists and readers, and in helping to provide music leadership.

As part of our emphasis in responding to the Good News of the Gospel, Friendship is involved in the community through mission work in local outreach ministries such as ACTS and the Athens Area Homeless Shelter, as well as providing a home to Boy Scout Troop 149, Venture Crew 149, Cub Scout Pack 149, The Friendship Community Choir, The Athens Chamber Singers, and the Friendship Presbtyerian Preschool.
